For many years now, the Nvidia graphics processors have been on the proverbial Mount Rushmore of GPUs, and now they've dipped their toes into the online gaming pool with GeForce Now. Basically, this is a competitor platform to Steam and Origin, wherein players sign up to play online games.

The big difference here is that these are games powered by Nvidia, for players who are running some sort of GeForce GPU, so the graphics are going to be stellar compared to some of those other platforms. Though that's the catch. You must run Nvidia to use this platform.

What GeForce Now Is and What It Does

GeForce Now is a gaming platform that's essentially just starting out, brought to you by the Nvidia Corporation. To sign up, it's absolutely free. However, there are only a few games that are available in the free mode. If you want to enjoy the over 50 games offered by GeForce Now, you'll have to buy a subscription.

This particular version of the platform is for the Mac OS X; however, you can find versions for Windows PCs and even mobile platforms. Right now, GeForce's platform is not nearly as popular as Steam, but many suggest that the graphics of the existing games are a lot better than competitor platforms.

Features of GeForce Now

There aren't a whole lot of features of which to speak when discussing GeForce Now. It's a gaming platform, so basically it's more or less a website that Nvidia users can access and then find games they want to play. To that end, the platform is easy to navigate, though probably because there are only around 50 games to date, so everything's easy to find.

The real features don't become apparent until you start playing the games. There, you will likely notice the difference between Nvidia's graphics and the graphics of games from other platforms. GeForce graphics just stand out and always have.
